April 20th: The World Night in Defence of Starlight
One of the achievements of the Starlight Initiative, promoted by IAC, UNESCO and international organizations, was the Declaration in Defence of the Night Sky and the Right to Starlight. During the Starlight Conference (2007), it was agreed to designate and promote April 20th as the "World Night for the Right to Observe the Stars." February 2008 – Upcoming IYA2009-related activities: GLOBE at Night Program
 The international star-counting activity known as GLOBE at Night returns for its third edition from February 25-March 8, 2008. Both the "classic" GLOBE at Night exercise that anyone can have fun doing with their unaided eyes, and a digital effort to obtain precise measurements of urban dark skies are offered again this year, in anticipation of a massive coordinated global effort with both versions during the International Year of Astronomy 2009. → more
