Technology

The following technologies help power the astronomy2009.org website:

Django
Django is a high-level Python Web framework that encourages rapid development and clean, pragmatic design.
Developed and used over three years by a fast-moving online-news operation, Django was designed to handle two challenges: the intensive deadlines of a newsroom and the stringent requirements of the experienced Web developers who wrote it. It lets you build high-performing, elegant Web applications quickly.

Python
Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used for many kinds of software development. It offers strong support for integration with other languages and tools, comes with extensive standard libraries, and can be learned in a few days.

MySQL
MySQL is an open-source, community-driven SQL database server.

Apache
The website is running on two load balanced servers running latest versions of Apache and mod_python.

memcached
memcached is a high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load.
