IYA2009 Special Projects

Check on the left menu for the current Special IYA2009 projects

The Cornerstone projects are supported by a number of Special projects, which will develop interactions and link the different initiatives and projects within IYA2009. These projects provide extra means to achieve the IYA2009's main goals and objectives.

Guidelines for the selection of IYA2009 Special projects
Although the focus of the global activities will be on these Cornerstones, it is acknowledged that these are certainly not the only big projects that will contribute to the vision and goals of IYA2009. It is for this reason that a category within the global structure has been set aside for “IYA2009 Special projects”. These projects provide extra means to achieve the IYA2009's main goals and objectives. The category of IYA2009 Special projects is intended to give large global projects (which satisfy the vision of IYA2009) greater international recognition and an opportunity to link with celebrations worldwide. Special projects are selected according to the prioritised criteria below:

1. It should satisfy at least one of the IYA2009 goals and align with the IYA2009 vision;

2. It should be a global project;

3. It should be financially independent (special projects should not seek funding from the IYA2009 Secretariat);

4. It should demonstrate sufficient potential for successful implementation (this may be in the form of human resources, funding, implementation plans, etc);

5. The bulk of the project should be implemented during 2009 (if the project goes far beyond 2009 then there should be some IYA2009 theme/focus of the project during 2009);

Any projects that satisfy these criteria are welcome to submit a motivation to the IYA2009 Secretariat (  iya2009@eso.org This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
